Hawke’s Bay Express customer comments

Fun Way to Get to Know Napier
The Hawke’s Bay Express is a beautifully hand crafted train engine and luxurious cars, designed and built by a local farmer and his wife, to transport tourists on a “tram style” ride through the unique Art Deco city of Napier. This couple provides a wonderful service in their sleek train and a very informative commentary on the history and current life of those who live in Napier and its agricultural environs. We were cruise passengers on excursion and we rode the Hawke’s Bay Express early in the morning. We gained a clear overview of the city’s layout and valuable information about the shops and restaurants, which guided us in deciding how to spend the rest of our day in this totally, enjoyable location.
The only way to see Napier if you have a disability
To be picked up at the dockside was a big bonus for me as by this time on our cruise I had done enough walking. To see the town by this mode was wonderful. We just sat back in a gleaming and most comfortable carriage with the windows down and the fresh breeze blowing was the only way to see Napier. This tour was run by a husband and wife team who were very friendly. The commentary provided by Will was clear and informative with a touch of humour thrown in.
I had the absolute pleasure of taking this tour on the HBE during a cruise via Napier in January.
It was, by far and away, the most professional and informative tour I have ever taken showing the many interesting facets of the town.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND this service to anyone visiting Napier……
A wonderful experience
This was a friendly, informative and very comfortable way to see Napier. We have been to Napier previously & had done the walking tour around the City centre so wanted to see more of the surrounding area & this was perfect. Thank you to Will for one of the most entertaining lectures we’ve had & to Will’s dad for hosting us in the carriages! A must-do in Napier.
